On Sunday 07/09 I headed to Borough Hill near Daventry early doors in the hope of finding a few passage migrants.
It was a pretty clear but misty morning but birds were certainly on the move. Good numbers of Meadow Pipits in particular were on the move. A Tree Pipit then headed west calling and a Yellow Wagtail also went over calling.
The bushes around the centre of the hill held 2-3 Whitethroat & a couple of Blackcap. A Wheatear also then dropped out of the sky into the hedge where it lingered for a few minutes before disappearing. A group of 5 or so Ravens were also very vocal overhead.
A short distance away, a group of 3 Whinchat were perched up on weed heads and proved to be fairly showy.
Towards the northern end, I had a good look at the hedge running across the hill. In around 45 minutes I mustered 2 possibly 3 Redstarts, 3 Spotted Flys, a couple of very bright juv Willow Warbler, several Chiffchaff and a couple of Blackcap.
Slowly making my way back to the car, I managed to add a further single flyover Yellow Wagtail, another Spotted Flycatcher and another 2 Whinchat perched on the BBC compound fence.
Really great morning's local birding!
